“What the year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the new year”
– Vern McLellan
I’ve spent the better part of my adult life struggling to become a better person, to succeed, to not worry as much. The more I live, the more I’ve learned, but also failed and faltered.
While I am by no means the best example of this, this I know to be true: How we talk to ourselves is everything.
Changing how we talk to ourselves changes everything else. When we learn to talk to ourselves using positive affirmations, everything in our lives changes for the better (even if it takes time). When we do that, we feel optimistic about setting clear goals. Once we get clear about goals, they become achievable. When one gets focused about how to accomplish goals, it’s a lot easier to stay the course. And when one models success, it starts to happen.
The biggest lesson I learned when I’ve been at the bottom is that the most significant lessons in self-development are also the simplest, the fundamentals, and that the single most important thing one can do is take action:
Create positive affirmations and repeat them with religious fervor.
Set bold, audacious goals in writing. Read them periodically.
Develop laser-like focus. It's so easy to get distracted these days.
Work with successful people and model their success.
Take relentless action.
This works for career, relationships, fitness and general health. Give it a good, honest try.
